Two Okinawan Shisas, that look like two drunk grandpas. And their slogan "なんくるないさぁ (Everything is gonna be alright)".
That were interesting objects to scan. The size of both figurines is about 5cm tall. Black semi-glossy paint body with some elements with vivid colors and whites.
Cross-polarisation capture immediately going home... only diffuse capture with whole reflection (diffuse and specular).
All objects are scanned at least in two steps, top and bottom parts.
Images are preprocessed in Lightroom for meshing and texturing (using wide gamut color space).
Reconstructed in RealityCapture, decimated to 10-15millions poly.
That meshes are simplified in zBrush and UVed in Blender with help of Path Tool addon. UV packed with UVPackMaster and result mesh subdivided using the method that makes good uniform triangle mesh but remains original UVs.
That mesh is imported back to zBrush to project all details and after it exports imported to RealityCapture to generate a 16K diffuse map.
The low poly mesh was used to reproject normals from raw mesh in RealityCapture and later to reproject color corrected and converted to ACEScg color map using xNormal.
Final renders are done in Blender Cycles.
